De Stichting Psychiatrie en Filosofie heeft de internationaal gerenommeerde psychiater en filosoof Thomas Fuchs, hoogleraar in Heidelberg, uitgenodigd om in Utrecht op dinsdag 14 mei 2024 een workshop te geven over fenomenologische psychopathologie. Deze workshop is tevens de afsluiting (en bekroning) van de online cursus fenomenologische psychopathologie voor AIOS en psychiaters, die van oktober 2023 tot april 2024 heeft plaatsgevonden onder auspiciën van de Stichting Psychiatrie en Filosofie.

(Inter)corporeal dynamics and psychopathology. Workshop with Thomas Fuchs.

This workshop focuses on phenomenological psychopathology. The main categories of this approach are terms and notions that are based in actual human experience, instead of theoretical research. Key notions concern corporeality, self-experience, experience of space and time, intentionality and intersubjectivity. The workshop is primarily concerned with the (inter)corporeal aspects of psychopathological phenomena. This approach implies a new definition of psychiatric disorders namely as dysfunctions in the relational embodied self. This important methodology has not yet received enough attention in Dutch psychiatry.

The workshop will include two lectures by Thomas Fuchs. In addition, there will be plenty of time for (prepared) discussions with him. Participants in this workshop will be sent relevant literature in advance. On this basis they can formulate questions which (after selection by the workshop organizers) can be asked to Thomas Fuchs in the workshop. In addition, there will be opportunity for free exchange of ideas.

The morning lecture will deal with the (inter)corporeal dimension of depression, schizophrenia and dementia. Attention is also paid to body-oriented therapies. In the afternoon lecture, phenomenological diagnostics will be contrasted with DSM-5 controlled diagnostics. Central is the first person perspective of the patient and his/her experiences regarding (inter)corporeality, space, time and meaning. Such a respectful exploration has therapeutic qualities. In addition, Fuchs discusses the psychiatrist's intuitive (inter)corporeal diagnostic skills that have recently been the subject of more research: the praecox feeling and the intuitive corporeal assessment of suicide risk. He will also pay attention to the psychiatrist's attitude (empathic solidarity).

16.00 - 17.00 uur: Gezamenlijke borrel
